State guide

Idaho

Idaho has a statewide Idaho Transportation Department portal for many law-enforcement, posted-private-property, and certain private-landowner tows. Idaho’s current state system also requires tow companies to submit rate sheets in that portal and gives owners formal options to request a tow hearing or file a declaration of opposition.

Checked against official sources on October 4, 2026. Rules and links change; confirm with the office listed before you act.

How to find a towed car
Yes. Idaho has a statewide ITD Abandoned Vehicle Portal covering law-enforcement, posted-private-property, and certain private-landowner tows.

State rules on tow and storage fees
Idaho does not show a statewide dollar cap on the ITD pages found, but tow companies must maintain rate sheets in the ITD portal, and owners may contest charges that do not match the rate sheet or when storage is not statutorily permitted.
Notice rules (police and owner)
For law-enforcement-directed tows, state materials say the tow company must report to ITD within one day; Boise policy says if notice is not given on scene, mailed owner notice goes out within 72 hours excluding weekends and holidays, and an ISP procedure says certified mail goes to the owner within 48 hours excluding weekends and holidays.
Who regulates tow companies
Idaho Transportation Department for the abandoned-vehicle portal and rate-sheet system; Idaho State Police regulates companies on ISP tow-rotation lists.
